2. Collection and Processing of Personal Data

When using TrustCamera, the following data is processed:

  • Photos & videos: Photos and videos you capture (via the website, web app, or native mobile app) are transferred to our servers for processing and verification.
  • Location: With your consent, the device location at the time of capture is transmitted to our server and immediately rounded to an accuracy of approximately 10 km. Only this rounded value is ever stored — the precise coordinates are never written to our database or logs.
  • Timestamp: The time of capture is automatically recorded.
  • Hash: A unique digital fingerprint (SHA-256 hash) is generated from the photo or video and stored in our server database.
  • Device/browser info: Technical information about your device or browser (User-Agent string) and your IP address are recorded with each capture and each visit, for security and troubleshooting purposes.
  • Note (optional): You may optionally attach a short text note to a capture. This note is stored together with the record and is visible to anyone who looks up the corresponding check code.
  • Feedback (optional): If you use the in-app or website feedback feature, your message and any screenshots you attach are sent by email to our support address and are not stored in our database.
  • Crash reports: If the native app crashes, it automatically sends a crash report to our support address the next time it starts. It contains the technical error description, the device model and the versions of the operating system and the app, but no photos, videos, locations or notes. We use it only to fix errors.
  • Gallery on your device: The native app keeps a list of your own captures from the last 24 hours (check code, capture time, preview image) only on your device so you can find them again. This list is not sent to us and is removed automatically after 24 hours or when you uninstall the app.
  • App rating: The native app may ask you once to rate it using the rating function of Google Play or the App Store. This is handled entirely by Google or Apple; we do not receive any personal data from it.

3. Purpose of Data Processing

Data is processed exclusively for the purpose of photo and video verification. This includes:

  • Creation of a digital fingerprint (hash) of the photo or video
  • Storage of the hash in our server database
  • AI-based check for image manipulation (for videos, the first frame is checked)
  • Verification of authenticity based on stored data

4. Storage and Deletion

Photos, videos, and associated metadata (approximate location, capture time, SHA-256 hash) are stored on protected servers for 24 hours from the time of capture, after which the file and its entire database record are automatically and permanently deleted. Until then, anyone who has the corresponding check code can look up and view that specific record, by design — this is how verification works. You may also request earlier deletion of an individual record by contacting us with the check code and a reason for the request; we review each request and act on it accordingly.

5. Your Rights

You have the right to access, rectification, deletion, and restriction of processing of your personal data. Please contact [email protected].

6. Hosting

This website is hosted by Hetzner Online GmbH, Industriestr. 25, 91710 Gunzenhausen, Germany. When visiting the website, technical data (IP address, browser type, access time) is automatically stored in server log files.

7. Cookies

This website uses Google Analytics (Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland) to analyze website usage. Google Analytics uses cookies that are stored on your device. The information generated by the cookie about your use of this website is usually transmitted to a Google server in the USA and stored there. We use Google Analytics with IP anonymization, so your IP address is shortened beforehand within the EU. You can prevent the storage of cookies by adjusting your browser settings or by declining cookies via our cookie banner. The legal basis is your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR). You can revoke your consent at any time by clicking 'Cookie Settings' in the footer. Apart from this, the website only uses a technically necessary localStorage entry to save your language preference.

8. Changes

We reserve the right to update this privacy policy as needed. The current version is always available on this page.
